About this studio
Hearts in Motion Dance (HMD) is a Grand Rapids, Michigan–area studio built on the belief in the power of dance to build strength, confidence, and a lifelong love of the art. The studio serves children across many styles, levels, and age groups, with a strong dual focus on both competitive dance teams and a robust recreational program so that every student feels like a valued part of the studio.
HMD is a "More Than Just Great Dance" certified studio and is YPAD certified, reflecting a commitment to best practices, ongoing staff training, and the social, emotional, and physical wellness of its dancers. A second location operates in Ada.
What to expect
Your first visit
New families can expect age-appropriate programming, costuming, and choreography in a kid-friendly environment, with year-end on-stage recital performances giving every child a chance to experience the joy of performing. Programs span developmental classes for the youngest dancers through advanced levels, plus optional dance-team opportunities. The studio maintains a Parent Portal, posts Fall and Summer schedules, and has a published dress code and FAQ for families.
Studio history
Founded in 2010 with the goal of making dance accessible to all students, HMD began with drop-in Saturday classes and performed "The Grinch" at an Amway Christmas party that year. It held its first annual recital in Spring 2011 with 30 participants, then grew steadily, and in Summer 2015 moved to a much larger facility on Plainfield featuring three dance rooms with professionally sprung floors.
