About this studio
Hot Jam is a weekly social swing dance and learning community in Atlanta, GA, dedicated to vintage jazz-era dances — Lindy Hop, Balboa, Blues, Charleston, and Collegiate Shag. Every Monday it brings together dancers of all levels, from absolute beginners to advanced, for live-DJ'd dancing on a highly danceable wood floor.
Established in 2005 by Bobby White, Michelle Chaff, and Nima Farsinejad as "a place for dancers by dancers," it is currently owned by Christopher Cohen and Rachel Pitner and continues its mission to support and grow the local swing dance community. The atmosphere is relaxed, inviting, and family-like, with experienced DJs spinning classic swing favorites by Count Basie, Benny Goodman, Sidney Bechet, and more.
What to expect
Your first visit
First-timers are welcome — no partner is required because Hot Jam is a social dance, so you can meet and dance with many partners through the night. New dancers should take the free "Fresh to Swing" beginner lesson (a 6-count swing intro/refresher). A typical Monday: a 30-minute Foundations of Lindy Hop warm-up, then beginner and series classes, followed by a two-hour DJ'd social dance to practice what you learned. Registration is available at the event with at-the-door pricing.
