XVIII. Recueil de Danses pour l'Annee 1720 de M. Balon, recueilles par M. Dezais (Balon / Dezais, Paris 1720)

Publisher: Jean Balon (Claude Ballon, b. 1676 - d. 1739; principal danseur of the Academie Royale de Musique, Maitre a danser des Princes du Sang, successor to Pecour as Maitre de Ballet at the Opera) / recueilles et mises au jour par M. Dezais, Maitre a Danser. Vendu chez le Sr. Dezais, rue de Bussy, Faubourg Saint-Germain, a la Cour Imperiale. 'Avec Privilege du Roy' 1720. Source: BnF / Gallica scan (pdf identifier 1720-Balon-Recueil-XVIII_(BNF).pdf), Library of Dance ABBYY OCR (DATA/LIBRARY_OF_DANCE/ABBYY TXT/1720-Balon-Recueil-XVIII_(BNF).txt). HISTORIC SIGNIFICANCE: This is the FIRST DEZAIS-PUBLISHED RECUEIL FEATURING A NEW HOUSE COMPOSER (Balon), marking the transition of the Petits Recueils Annuels series from a Feuillet-Pecour-Dezais in-house succession (1700-1719) to a Dezais-as-publisher / house-composer-of-the-year model (1720-onward). The Avertissement outlines Dezais's continuation strategy and his subscription model ('Ceux qui voudront se donner la peine d'ecrire leurs lettres ... ne seront pas reeeus'). Per the catalog page, the XVIII contains: La Poitevine and La Florentine (sister title OCR-degraded; reconstructed from the convention of paired place-named dances - cf. Dezais X La Bretagne, XII La Chamberry, XIII La Transilvanie, XV La Berauce). The catalog also announces a 'IIe Recueil pour 1720 Contenant la Nouvelle Bourree et la Nouvelle Charlotte' - this is a separate publication (forthcoming in late 1720 / early 1721) and remains unimported pending discovery of its OCR'd source file. Continues the Petits Recueils Annuels series after the 1719 Pecour-attributed Recueil XVII (LOC-1719-DEZAIS-XVII). Has_Step_Detail = No: the figure / step content is published as graphical Beauchamp-Feuillet engravings that ABBYY OCR cannot extract; only title-card, Avertissement, and catalog metadata is extant in the OCR pass.Year: 1720Family: balon-xviiiCatalog: local
