Competitive ballroom & Latin dancers in the United States
Overview
The National Dance Council of America. Governs professional DanceSport competitions, rankings, and adjudication standards in the United States across Standard, Smooth, Rhythm, and Latin divisions.
History
The NDCA was founded in 1948 to establish consistent rules and standards for competitive ballroom dancing in the United States.
As competitive DanceSport grew through the 1960s–80s, the NDCA became the recognized authority for professional and Pro-Am competitions.
The organization developed the ranking system that tracks competitive results across sanctioned events nationwide.
NDCA works with both WDC and WDSF to connect American competitors with international championship pathways.
Today, the NDCA sanctions hundreds of competitions annually, from small regional events to major national championships.
Governance & Structure
The NDCA is governed by a council of dance professionals, organizers, and adjudicators.
Competitions must apply for and receive NDCA sanctioning to contribute to official rankings.
Adjudicators must hold NDCA certification to judge at sanctioned events.
The organization maintains rules for competitor conduct, partnership registration, and division eligibility.
